They totally opened up my hacking mind and made me just dangerous enough to destroy original, copy-protected disks.

I strongly second reading up on the mysterious 4am. He documents his cracks and includes write-ups and work disks with his releases. There are fewer write-ups these days because of the effectiveness of Passport, software for automatically cracking disks that use productized protection schemes.

The equally mysterious Mark Pilgrim gave a talk about cracking and Passport at KansasFest 2017 called “Cracking at Scale,” which one can find on YouTube.
