Parappa remixes in the year 2026, what a time to be alive. Yay! My own fond memories are of the Let's Plays, from the era when the world was a 2D plane, when elephants and carp were unstoppable death machines, when you could flip a switch and magmafy the world. The days of image memes and illustrated play stories. I should probably write something about that time, there's at least one holdout out there who thinks the worst thing DF ever did was add a Z axis.

I watched this entire video a few days ago, and loved every minute of it.
I'd been planning on buying Walkabout Mini-golf for quite a while now, and this DLC put me over the edge on it. It's a great game on its own, but the Homestar Runner DLC is packed with great references.
I'd recommend seeing if some other Youtube videos have explored more of the game, as there's lots of other stuff to see. You can go into the normal courses, and there's usually 3-6 places where HR characters will now pop up to say stuff. There's a Trogdor minigame where you burninate peasants and thatched roof cottages. There's a slingshot style minigame where you fend off objects thrown by that wireframe Strong Bad head (your head aspload). Lots of cool stuff!

I completely agree that Digital Eclipse should be allowed to do something good with Ultima, and if it is at all feasible, give it the full Gold Master treatment. I have deep respect for what Lord British created, but after Shroud of the Avatar, I don't know if he has the juice. Maybe Ultima has said all it needs to say. For now, I'm looking forward to World of Anterra, which appears to be very much in the shape of a classic Ultima RPG adventure.

Oh my gosh, thank you so much for the shout-out to Indie Tsushin!! I definitely need to get back into the groove of updating it, and I have a bunch of plans for when the TOWNSQUEER bundle has finished!

BTW, just to clarify that I was only one of a whole team to put the TOWNSQUEER bundle and zine together. I gotta shout out my fellow organizers Bram Dingelstad, PRINCESS INTERNET CAFé, FUTURE RUINS (who made that great cover and all the key art!!), Luka the Mouse, Araly, Zorzamoth, and all the contributions we got from the members on gamedev.lgbt. The trailer itself was made by Lukito, and yeah, it is a very cool indeed and well worth the embed haha! We really hope you enjoy the bundle and zine and check out the kind of cool queer art you can find on gamedev.lgbt!!

Well no. Turing completeness only tells us what can theoretically be computed in principle, it says nothing about hardware interfaces or suitability of data. COBOL is such a weird language, it uses fixed-point math for instance. it was made for human-readable code in the domain of financial applications. I had a college course in it once, although that was many years ago now. It'd be scarcely less likely to work out than writing a shader in Inform 7, a language specific to the domain of writing text adventure games.

>Yep, what’s in the title apparently can be done.

Isn't that an inevitable corollary of Turing completeness?

Ah, thanks for looking for that, it's not the one I was talking about (I think it was pretty early in the column's run) but it's nice to see it again.

Nethack is still my favorite roguelike game, even though I haven't played much of it in the years since. Once you know basically everything in the game, even though it's a lot, it loses much of its capacity to surprise. I should really dig into it again now!

> (Note: I’ve been told since writing this that you can still get images off using an SD card… although if you have a Switch 2 like I do you’re probably just as out of luck as it uses SD Express cards. I’ve yet to confirm cross compatibility with those, I don’t think I have the right kind of adapter.)

You don't need to take the SD card out or use an adapter, just use a USB cable and plug the Switch itself in to your PC

This came up after the post went live, although in its way it makes it even more infuriating that the "simple" way of getting images off is meaninglessly restricted. I should probably edit the post to add this information in though.

That detail about it being Sonic's first voiced line in the series really puts this quirky feature into historical context. It's fascinating how such a simple joke mechanic could have so many unintended interactions depending on the version.
