Sundry Sunday: Eggpo, in Instruction Book

Sundry Sunday is our weekly feature of fun gaming culture finds and videos, from across the years and even decades.

Eggpo is a video game-themed series that was part of the “Two More Eggs” animations that The Brothers Chaps, Mike and Matt Chapman, creators and makers of Homestar Runner, made for Disney’s XD service. While the series is nine years old now, nearly all are still viewable on XD’s Youtube channel, minus a couple that were removed for some reason.

This is the fifth of the Eggpo cartoons, and clocks in at a minute-forty. We’ve seen the previous four here so far. They’re about a couple of Goomboid creatures from an 8-bit game questioning their places as underlings in video game world. They’re pretty good, and short. In this one, the Eggpos explore their game’s instruction manual. It’s not explained how they got in there.

There’s another game-related sequence in Two More Eggs, “CG Pals,” which follows the adventures of a bunch of low-polygon friends and their adventures in the Third Dimension. Since there’s only two Eggpo cartoons left, maybe we’ll look at those after Eggpo runs out.

Sundry Sunday: Eggpo, in Joyride

Here’s the fourth installment of the Eggpo sequence, made by Homestar Runner creators The Brothers Chaps for Disney. In this one, the goombesque duo try out one of the powerups that’s usually reserved for the good guy character. It’s 1 1/2 minutes:

Eggpo is part of their series Two More Eggs, which has a number of other chuckle-worthy bits that don’t so obviously fit in our purview. Two More Eggs was around for only a bit over a year, but in that time we got a number of fun new characters that, due to ownership by the Mouse, will probably never have new installments ever again. So, all of Dooble, Hector and Kovich, CG Pals, Panda Bractice, Hot Dip and others that exist now, will probably be all that will ever exist, unless the copyright regime were to suddenly become much less draconian. I’ve beaten this drum since the early days of the internet. I will never stop beating it, until I stop entirely.

Sundry Sunday: Eggpo, “Mini-Boss”

Here is the third of the Eggpo cartoons that The Brothers Chaps, creators of Homestar Runner, made for Disney XD, as part of their “Two More Eggs” series.

This one’s only 1 1/2 minutes (none of them are very long). Eggpos are Goomba-class enemy conscripts in a platformer starring Dooble (who features, in non pixel-form, in other Two More Eggs cartoons). None of the Eggpo get any respect. The cartoons focus on two particular Eggpos (is that the right plural?), one who misguidedly believes in the system, the other willing to buck it a bit if it means he doesn’t get stomped on or set aflame. Here, they are set to meet a higher-level member of the whimsical military they’re a part of.

The Eggpo series contains seven videos in all. This is #3, so we’re about halfway through them. See you again at number four.
